7th Grade Writing


First Six Weeks

Week 6
October 2-6, 2017
"There are no shortcuts. Rome was not built overnight. Brick upon brick is the structure built."
Monday, October 2

* Journal entry, Great Lives, Great Deeds (Gandhi): Student response
* Go over the homework.
* Engage students with a wrong sentence where subject and verb do not agree.

* Build the foundation with questions like: What's wrong with this sentence? If so, how do you fix it? Why did you fix it that way? etc.
* Have now students define this rule. Have them lay down the elements about this rule: subject-verb agreement.Elements: Singular/plural nouns/pronouns; singular/plural verbs; present tense verbs; first, second, third persons
* Have students make their own sentences with complete subjects having prepositional phrases agreeing with the verbs.


Tuesday, October 3

* Great Lives, Great Deeds: student response

* Explain in detail the natural and inverted order sentences,  and tie these with subject-verb agreement.* Practice fixing  subject-verb agreement problem  in increasingly more complicated sentences
* Practice sentence analysis



Wednesday, October 4


* Great Lives, Great Deeds:student response
* General review for the first common assessment


Thursday, October 5

* First Common Assessment



Friday, October 6
* Wrap-up the first six weeks: late work, missing assignments, etc.
