Monday, February 26
*Elegant Sentences: From The Old Man and the Sea
GRAMMAR
DISTRICT BENCHMARK : Go over the test
*COMPOSITION
- Deconstruct the passages from the DBM 2 and reverse the writing process back to the outline.
- Model for students  how the author might have designed his outline before he/she wrote the piece.
- Talk through the modeling.
- Construct the outline.

Tuesday, February 27
* Elegant Sentences: From Bomb
* GRAMMAR
* Students are given question items to analyze and present to the class.
     - Go over benchmark test through student presentations.
 * COMPOSITION
     -Students are assigned passages to deconstruct and reconstruct.
    - They work in groups..
    
Wednesday, February 28
*Elegant Sentences: From A Wrinkle in Time
GRAMMAR
     - Students start presenting.
     COMPOSITION
    - Students write their outlines in butcher papers and present.
    
Thursday, March 2
* Elegant Sentences: From Prodigy
GRAMMAR
    - Present the items assigned. 
    
COMPOSITION
    - Students continue presenting the reconstructed outline.

*COMPOSITION
Students compare their paragraphs with that of a published author to see how close their version was to the published text.
- Models of how a paragraph can be de-cluttered and sentences combined.

* Quotable Quotes: Aesop's Fables
* GRAMMAR
* SIX WEEKS TEST:  Social Studies, Reading, Math, TELPAS
     - Go over benchmark test through student presentations.
 * COMPOSITION
     -Students revisit their compositions to check on Capitalization, Usage, Punctuation,and Spelling (CUPS) .
    
Wednesday, February 21

GRAMMAR
     - TELPAS
     - Sentence continue editing their essay.
COMPOSITION
    - Students begin reviewing expository strategies again.
    - Students practice making introductions using attention grabbers.

Thursday, February 22

    - Go over DBM 2 Multiple Choice test
    - Sentence combination/revision/editing
    -Mini-lesson on apostrophes in contractions and possessives
COMPOSITION
    - Students practice making body paragraphs.

    - Students are exposed to dialogue rules and practice same

    - Students practice conclusions.

* Video clip from "The Gifted Hands" about interns
* Students are grammar "interns", diagnosing sentence errors and fixing them.
* GRAMMAR
* Students are given "patients" with a chart history relating their "disease" (sentence mistakes).
* They analyze the sentence mistakes and fix them.
* They present their "findings" and "prescriptions" .
     - Go over benchmark test through student presentations
     -Sentence combination/revision
* COMPOSITION
     -Students turn in their revised essays.

     - Students continue grammar presentation
