3rd Week

October 19-23, 2015


MONDAY, October 19
* Due to the change of date of our District Benchmark I for writing to Nov. 3rd instead of Nov. 19, we have accelerated our STAAR review. We have started with the REVISING review last Thursday.
 * Go over the answers today and review skills in the process.
 * We plan to finish it today.
TUESDAY, October 20
 * Start EDITING review with an actual STAAR 2013 released test.
 * Each passage MUST be read.
WEDNESDAY, October 21
 * If the questions are all answered, we start going over them.
THURSDAY, October 22
 * We continue going over the review questions.
FRIDAY
 * We start the EXPOSITORY ESSAY.
 * Overall plan for expository essay
 * Introduction: attention grabber, clear controlling idea

MONDAY, October 12
 * Due to the need of students to understand the basics of conjugation in subject-verb agreement, especially the ending S in third person singular, present tense, there will be more practice in class for this day.
 * PETER PIPER PIZZA, REPORT CARD GRADE PICK-UP, 5;00-7;00 PM
 * there will be fifteen (15) extra points for students who show up with parents
TUESDAY, October 13
 * Complex sentences will be revisited, especially with relative pronouns WHO,WHOM,WHOSE,WHICH, WHAT, THAT.
 * Practice writing complex sentences
WEDNESDAY, October 14
 * Comma rules: 
        - in compound sentences with FANBOYS
        - in openers
        - in interrupters
        - in lists
        - in closers
THURSDAY, October 15
 * Comma rules continued
FRIDAY, October 16

September 21-25, 2015

The Week Ahead:

MONDAY: September 21
 * Personal narrative
    - Students read and analyze a 4 essay and learn from the style of the student author.
    - Students continue writing their personal narrative.
    - This will be turned in as a final draft on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
  * Revising and editing review will continue 
  * Touch up on complex sentences: students write and analyze some examples.
TUESDAY: September 22
  * Revising and editing review continues.
  * Touch up on subject-verb-agreement: emphasize the rule - When the subject is singular, the verb must be singular; when the subject is plural, the verb must be plural.
  * All present tense verbs that are in third person singular always end in S.
  * All present tense verbs that are in third person plural DO NOT end in S.
WEDNESDAY: September 23
  * Revising and editing review continues.
     EARLY RELEASE

  * Revising and editing review continues.
  * Personal narrative essay format of STAAR test is introduced to students.
