The Week Ahead:
MONDAY: September 21
* Personal narrative
- Students read and analyze a 4 essay and learn from the style of the student author.
- Students continue writing their personal narrative.
- This will be turned in as a final draft on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
* Revising and editing review will continue
* Touch up on complex sentences: students write and analyze some examples.
TUESDAY: September 22
* Revising and editing review continues.
* Touch up on subject-verb-agreement: emphasize the rule - When the subject is singular, the verb must be singular; when the subject is plural, the verb must be plural.
* All present tense verbs that are in third person singular always end in S.
* All present tense verbs that are in third person plural DO NOT end in S.
WEDNESDAY: September 23
* Revising and editing review continues.
EARLY RELEASE
THURSDAY: September 24
* Revising and editing review continues.
* Personal narrative essay format of STAAR test is introduced to students.
FRIDAY: September 25

MONDAY: 9/14
* Students are given a specific prompt.
*Students pick a specific topic from ideas generated in brainstorming.
*Teacher models the process of outlining as an organizational tool.
*Students outline their own topics as teacher monitors.

*A short exposure to a STAAR formatted question with in-depth analysis.
TUESDAY: 9/15

* LINEAR and STARRED writing are introduced with a power point and kinesthetic activity.
* DEPTH CHARGING is another term for STARRED writing.
*Discussion is coupled with thinking map: compare and contrast.
*Students practice writing linear as well as starred writing.
*A short exposure to a STAAR formatted question with in-depth analysis.
WEDNESDAY: 9/16
* (Teacher may insert here the SUBJECT-VERB-AGREEMENT skill.)

* TELESCOPING as a writing strategy is introduced.
* It is FOCUS in a composition, or staying on topic.
* A sample essay is read just demonstrating the skill.
* A telescope project is assigned with a deadline on September 29 with these criteria:
- colorful
- neat
- artistically decorated
- handmade, not store bought
- Name, Date, Period, Campus

THURSDAY: 9/17
*Students start writing their composition.
* If not finished, they take this for HOMEWORK due the following day.

* Teacher and student model for the class the way a feedback loop works.
* Students read to each other their draft to see if there is FOCUS.

Students will continue writing their Patriot's Pen Essay for a contest.

The Week Ahead:
MONDAY:
* Review compound sentence and coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet,so
* Differentiate coordinating conjunctions with other similar words but are used differently like for as preposition,etc.
* Review clauses and phrases with examples and practice.
* Touch on the writing process.
TUESDAY
* Continue on the writing process.
* Start MAGNIFYING ( zooming on a specific topic) with power point.
WEDNESDAY
* Review some sample questions for the test.
* Practice converting inverted sentences into natural sentences.
* Introduce RUN-ONS, COMMA SPLICES,and FRAGMENTS.
THURSDAY
* TEST: 3rd Week Common Assessment
FRIDAY
* Introduce LINEAR (surface) and STARRED (depth) writing
* Start TELESCOPING ( staying on one topic) with a full blown draft
